Do you practice religion?
This is an interesting question, which I am sure will divide people. But yes, I do practice my religion, not as diligently as I should be doing, but this year I have definitely stepped up my game. And that is why I even posted a month long #RamadanPhotoADay challenge, that you can check from here.
The history with me and religion is a long one as I belong to minorities. Growing up in a secular household, I always felt that religion wasn’t exactly a priority, and for our family, it was more like going to funerals and weddings and visiting graveyards on certain festive days. So it wasn’t surprising that in my teens, I was seeking to carve my own path with the divine.
I left Christianity when I was about 20 and became a solitary, eclectic wiccan. It definitely allowed me to learn more about the cycle of the year and also about the responsibility of a human being towards his fellow humans and nature. Something I think all of us should pay much more attention to.
Fast forward to February 2011 when I found my true path and reverted back to Islam. With that, I have found an inner peace I didn’t think I would with any organised religion. Especially when belonging to a minority. But when your Creator comes calling, the faith begins.
Honestly, I hope that each and every one of us humans on the Earth finds comfort and solace in our faith. It doesn’t matter which religion or doctrine of faith we belong to or if our faith is atheism. What we need to do is to give space for each and every one of us to live and thrive, and we need to learn from each other.
