What profession do you admire most and why?
This truly is a difficult prompt as there are so many individuals and occupations that should be recognised. There are doctors, nurses, teachers, nannies, cleaners… the list goes on and on, and on. As such, the list is about the important professions, and I am sure that I would be able to think 1001 reasons why they would merit to be the most important.

I even thought that I’d choose housewives as the most important ones, but then I decided against it, even though my own mother was a stay-at-home mum and by this example I see the importance of this occupation. Instead, I opted to go with midwives.

Anyone of you who has read the “Call the Midwife” books by Ms. Jennifer Worth knows what an important role the midwives played in the past, during the times when you just couldn’t or wouldn’t pop to a hospital to give birth.
Anyone of you who has not yet read the books I urge you to do as these are based on real-life experiences. Ms. Worth wrote the books from her own notes and journals. These, of course, were later adapted as a long-running TV drama show by the BBC.

But really, if it was not because of the skills and knowledge of the women, would anyone of us have really been born into this world? At least would our births have been safe for us and for our mothers?
