Life, and Death

Life, and Death

Death comes to us all, and like I have mentioned before, it is one certainty in the universe. But did it have to happen just now?!

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilaihi rāji’ūn. Verily, we belong to Allah, and unto Him we are returning.

In late February, I wrote about mortality. Please read that too, as it bruhses so closely with this text. In that text, I spoke about the fear of standing in a shop, wondering if my mum would even eat her favourite foods. That fear was tangible then, as I pictured myself having to later on stand by the fridge, throwing away all the foods from there, untouched.

I didn’t have to. The antibiotics did what they were supposed to do, and we got on to celebrate another birthday of hers towards the end of April.

Yet at the back of my mind, I had this process going on. It is that process that I have had to face, and what became concrete in February.

And now, just last week, on the 7th of May, 2024, that process became reality. I received the dreaded phone call from the care home – my mother had passed away.

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilaihi rāji’ūn.
