This is exactly why my wife and I set up our Open Road Tales. Not because we wanted to choose a mode of transportation, but because of the adventure of it. Interested?

You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?
Airplanes vs. Cars vs. Trains
Them modern world makes the most of us think time as a commodity. We work 9-to-5, rush to Pilates class afterwards, before we have to pick up the children from the day care. We carefully plan the Friday’s meeting of our old friends, because everyone has their own schedules to follow.
Sound familiar? Thought so.

Also, if you think of this constant barrage of time constraint, is it wonder that many people opt to travel from point A to point B by airplane—it is, after all, fast and efficient. And who wouldn’t want to have their escape from the rat race be fast, so that the holiday in the sun can be maximised most efficiently.

When it comes to car and road trips, it is much less efficient as a holiday mode—you tend to spend your holiday behind the wheel. And if you have to commute on your daily grind, it might not have thr same appeal as a beach holiday with a mojito.
At least until you realise that it is about the trip, and not about the destination. Right?

Don’t get me wrong, here! There are times when I would love to buy a packaged holiday, and just let someone else take care of the logistics, and… well… everything. But those times are rare, for me, as I love the idea of having the freedom to choose which roads to take this time. Also, as we have two poodles, this is convenient way for travelling with them.
And then there are trains…

Ever since finding out about a YouTuber, SuperAlbs, I have become somewhat enthusiastic about taking a cross-continental train trip from Finland to Spain—and back. Or even beyond Europe.
What vexes me, greatly, is the lack of booking infrastructure on this kind of journeys. If I had the know-how, I would definitely create it immediately. Trying to piece an itinerary country by country is annoying in itself and when you have to try to book for dogs.. it becomes a nightmare.

So, is it a wonder if I say that, for the time being, roadtrips are our favourite mode of transportation across a continent. Driving your car allows you to have stops anywhere you like, and it allows you the freedom that nothing else can.
But as it is, driving is not cheap. Which is why it would be greatly appreciated if you could Buy Me A Coffee. Thanks in advance!
