What Makes a Person Unique?

What Makes a Person Unique?

What a fantastic prompt today! This is a topic that has been circling around my brain recently, especially as I write about travel, geopolitics, and the small ways we can, and should, prepare for a world that isn’t as stable as it still pretends to be. Come, and read more about this!

Which aspects do you think makes a person unique?

Even if I love travel, I don’t think that a person’s passport collection makes them unique. Passport is, after all, something we all are supposed to have, even those that come from lands that were stolen from them.

Neither uniqueness comes from the number of countries they’ve visited or the languages they’ve memorised on the way. These, for me, are just facets of their personality, of their curiosity.

In my book, what makes us truly unique, is what they refuse to abandon when things get hard. In other words: integrity.

It is in the person who packs dog food in their home supplies for emergencies because they see pets as family members, and not as cargo taking up space when things turn sour. The same integrity thar is there, when one has to take the longer, harder route because the easy way would mean leaving someone behind.

And it is the same integrity of a person, who, when the government says “it’s complicated,” still finds the clarity and guts to say “this is wrong.

For me, uniqueness is stubbornness with a moral compass. It’s the choice to be kind and to do the right thing even when no one is watching. It’s the refusal to treat the cabin crew like furniture, or the dogs like luggage, or the truth like something you can negotiate away.

You can copy someone’s style. You can fake their confidence. But you can’t fake what you refuse to let go of.

And, my dear reader, that’s the thing that’s yours.
